Volunteers from around Madison will join members of American Legion Post 229 to place wreaths on every veteran’s grave in Madison on December 8.
The Post plans to place wreaths on veterans’ graves at 10 a.m. They will start in the cemetery on the north side of Mill Road nearMadison Fire Station No. 1 before moving on to three other cemeteries in Madison.
In years past, Post members and citizen volunteers were joined by veterans, Patriot Guard Riders, Bob Jones High School ROTC members, and others to place wreaths on more than 300 veteran’s graves.
This is the fifth year that Madison’s American Legion Post 229 has sponsored the wreath laying, and again, the Post is calling for volunteers. Anyone interested in helping is encouraged to call Nancy Burch, 1st Vice Commander of Post 229, 256-509-6445.
“Volunteers will remove the wreaths from boxes, fluff them up, and hand them off to other volunteers to be placed on the graves. We’ll need several people to prepare the wreaths, then they can be carried to the graves for placement,” said Burch.
