Volunteers lay wreaths in Madison cemeteries

Dozens of volunteers and members of the American Legion Post 229 placed wreaths on every veteran’s grave in Madison on Saturday.

The volunteers placed wreaths at four Madison cemeteries beside the graves of men and women who had served in the military. Some of the oldest graves were those of Civil War soldiers.

Some of the volunteers included Bob Scout troops, members of the Madison Young Marines, Bob Jones JROTC and James Clemens JROTC.

This is the fifth year that Madison’s American Legion Post 229 has sponsored the wreath laying, said Nancy Burch, 1st Vice Commander of Post 229.
