Rainbow Chess Team places first in national championships


Congratulations to Rainbow Elementary School’s Chess Team for winning 1st place in the National Elementary Chess Championships this past weekend! This was the first time that an elementary team from Alabama won the National Championship!!

The National Elementary Chess Championship occurred May 8-10th at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Convention Center. Over 2200 students from across the United States competed in multiple divisions over the three-day weekend.

Rainbow Elementary’s team of Geon Park (2nd grade), Constance Wang (4th grade), Maanasi Limaye (5th grade) and Mercedes Zich (5th grade) won 1st place in the K-6 U1000 category in the National Elementary Chess Championship this weekend. Geon also received 11th place with 6 out of 7 possible points, and Mercedes won 19th individually. Constance Wang tied for 20th place with 5 points.
