Donna Patterson genuinely and enthusiastically loves her job, primarily because she loves her clients. Since 2007, she’s been in the pet sitting business.
A passionate animal lover, Donna owns Petz Sitters, a professional service for pet owners where their pets will be loved and cared for in the comfort of their own home while the owners are at work, play or vacation.
Based in Madison, but covering a wide area that includes most of Madison County, Petz Sitters offers daily dog walking, pet visits, pet taxi, dog products, photography and equestrian care.
“My goal is to provide a stress-free environment for the pet,” Donna said.
A resident of Madison since 1983 along with her husband Mike, Donna started Petz Sitters after a rewarding career as a sales representative in the gift industry. She decided to follow her dream of having pet related businesses and developed a web site specializing in the boxer dog breed. From there, she began to research pet sitting and then taking courses to become certified.
“There are significant advantages to using Petz Sitter, rather than traditional pet care options,” Donna said. Reasons people use Petz Sitter include:
“We strive to be the excellence of professional pet sitting, using experienced and trained pet sitters,” Donna said. “We provide safety and security to homes and their pets, along with building long lasting relationships with their family.”
Donna believes the professionalism and the personal touch that she and her staff provides, fueled by their love of animals, separates Petz Sitters from competitors. Every potential new client gets a meet and greet-both the owner and the pet-so she can make sure the arrangement will be copacetic for everyone.
Petz Sitter is a member of Pet Sitters International (PSI) and The National Association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS) where Donna achieved her certifications. The Certification Program is an in-depth educational coursework that has been tailored exclusively for pet sitters that includes topics on pet care, health and nutrition. Donna is currently studying for her Veterinarian Assistants Certification.
Because Donna takes her responsibility of professionally caring for a family’s pet in their own home very seriously, she chooses her staff very well. The entire staff at Petz Sitters is trained, licensed and bonded. Petz Sitters is a Better Business Bureau Accredited Business.
Donna is also owner of Maximus Dog Products, Inc., a web site boutique of dog products along with all kinds of dog lover gifts. She also likes to volunteer for Rockin P Rescue, organization based in Jacksonville, AL, doing home visits within Madison County.
To help educate the boxer breed, Donna designed a web site called Boxer-Dog-Information for researching the breed before adopting or owning. In 2006, she organized Madison County Boxer Meetup Group, a boxer dog breed club with over 150 members that meet to socialize both the owners and the dogs. She also attends a local nursing home with her registered therapy boxer dog through Therapy Dogs, Inc for dog therapy with the residents.
A pet photographer, Donna will be featured in Paws of Charity. This year marks the third year for this project – an art book being created using donated art and photograph images from artists around the world. The book features dogs and cats and all proceeds raised will be donated to charity directly by the book publisher. The book can be purchased on line at www.pawsforcharity.blogspot.com.
