A bomb threat at Athens High School this morning prompted officials to evacuate students to the school’s stadium, but no bombs were found after a search by Athens police and the Huntsville police bomb squad.
The campus is clear and students may now pick up their vehicles, Athens police Chief Floyd Johnson said.
This morning, Johnson said law enforcement had secured the area. School officials coordinated with parents who checked their children out of school.
A message on a restroom stall threatening student safety prompted Athens Superintendent Trey Holladay to increase the police presence on campus Tuesday.
Holladay said the message was found Monday after school and since has been erased from the stall. He said he couldn’t go into detail about the nature of the message but said it caused the safety of students to come into question.
