Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater (FPCT) invites you to step into the colorful world of Pinkalicious the Musical as it dances into the Von Braun Center Playhouse October 7th-16th.
Writers Elizabeth Kann and Victoria Kann transformed their beloved Pinkalicious books into a fully realized musical stage production.
Directed by Education Associate and Teaching Artist Terrena Mann of Madison and starring 17-year-old home-schooled senior Meredith Johnson of Huntsville in the title role, the production features a cast of 25 local actors, aged 7 to adult.
Inspired by Victoria Mann’s award-winning illustrations, the stunning work of production design team Elaine Hubbard & Marie Sexton (Costumes), Tom Prohaska (Technical Director and Set Design), Cynthia Meyers (Lights) and David Hoppe (Sound Design) will dazzle audience members. Jessica Alexander (Assistant Director and Choreographer), Lea Hoppe (Musical Director), and Melissa Bullard (Tap Choreographer) help get this musical on its feet.
Not only is this vivacious show the first musical Fantasy Playhouse has produced other than A Christmas Carol, it reaches a devoted fan base.
Director Terrena Mann says, “It is always so exciting when a child tells me they have grown up reading Pinkalicious. They know this story in one dimension and my hope is to make the pictures and characters leap off the page and into the VBC Playhouse. The costumes, sets, and a few surprises, will really bring the Pinkertons and their home to life.”
Pinkalicious actor Meredith Johnson adds, “I think what I’m most excited about is bringing this character that so many young girls love to life onstage! I had no idea how many children knew and loved Pinkalicious until recently, and it makes me very excited to perform!”
To tickle these fans pink, FPCT hopes to stay true to the story from the page to the stage.
Mann says, “Our tech director, Tom Prohaska, has designed a set that will bring the pages of Pinkalicious to life. You’re going to feel like you have stepped into the Pinkerton’s living room, Dr Wink’s pediatrician office, and a park alive with flowers, bees and butterflies. Just like in the book, we will celebrate all things pink, while learning a little more about Mr. and Mrs. Pinkerton, and their son, Peter.”
Johnson adds, “Pinkalicious is given more heart onstage! She is given a chance to prove her good intentions and learn her lesson with a heartwarming, relatable message.”
In keeping with FPCT’s mission of acting as an entryway to live theatre for children, this production is suitable for all ages. Mann hopes children will see the theme as “more” isn’t always better or good for us. She says, “The heart of Pinkalicious the Musical is the family dynamic that unfolds throughout the story. We always want ‘more’. Children want more sweets, more toys, more time to play. But during our quest for “more” we lose time with each other. The Pinkertons are ALL of us.”
Don’t miss these PINKTASTIC performances!
Performances are 7pm Friday evenings and 1:30pm and 5pm Saturdays and Sundays. Single tickets are $15 each. Tickets may be purchased at www.fantasyplayhouse.com or by phone at 256-539-6829.
