Madison Police officer Bill Watson was released from Huntsville Hospital this morning and transported to the Limestone County jail after he was arrested.
Watson has been charged with one count of sex abuse involving a girl younger than 16. His bond was set at $50,000, which he posted and was released.
Authorities have not revealed a specific number of alleged victims, but they do anticipate more charges against Watson, who was in the hospital for an undisclosed reason.
The Limestone County Sheriff’s office says this has been an ongoing investigation and believe the abuse has happened over several years.
Watson has been placed on administrative leave while Madison officials complete an internal inquiry.
Watson has been an officer with the Madison Police Department for 13 years. He was twice named Officer of the Year.
