Madison County approves school calendars

In a special session on Thursday the Madison County Board of Education approved the calendar for the 2013-2014 school year.

The board also approved an alternate calendar for 2013-2014 in the event the Alabama Legislature approved legislation that would allow local school systems to develop their own calendars without mandated start and stop dates.

The alternate 2013-2014 calendar, which includes a fall break, would only go into effect if systems are granted flexibility to set their own calendars.\

Since the mandated legislation is slated to end with the 2013- 2014 calendar, Superintendent David Copeland recommended and the board approved a 2014-2015 school calendar which also includes a fall break.
