James Clemens, Bob Jones and Madison Academy win pre-season games

Pre-season victories, including one for the James Clemens Jets, were highlighted in the recent Jamboree games for our local high school football teams.

“I’m happy for our kids, especially those who were around last year, and they have every right to enjoy this taste of victory,” said Wade Waldrop, head coach of the Jets, after James Clemens defeated Grissom 48-12 in its pre-season game.

The Jets kick off the regular season this Friday against Johnson at Alabama A&M Stadium.

Bob Jones nailed down an impressive victory in the Champions Challenge in Montgomery against Enterprise . The Patriots are the first north team in Class 6A to win the Champions Challenge in its eight year history. Final score was 23-20.

Bob Jones scored early to take the lead. Patriots’ touchdowns were scored by Ryan Crooks (6-yards), Tyler Whalen (63-yards) and Carlos Davis (52-yards). Matt Trulock also kicked a 28-yard field goal for Bob Jones.

The Patriots open the regular season against Northridge at Madison City Schools Stadium this Friday at 7 p.m.

Madison Academy used five different running backs to score touchdowns in its 35-15 victory over Athens in its pre-season contest. The Mustangs’ varsity played three quarters of the game with the junior varsity squad completing the fourth quarter of action.

Madison Academy, defending 3-A State Champions, open its 2013 season at home Thursday night as they face the defending 2A State Champion Tanner Rattlers.
