FluMist vaccination at Madison schools extended due to overwhelming response

Due to an overwhelming response, Madison City Schools must extend its FluMist vaccination program a second day.

Monday, two teams of health experts could not reach all of the schools because the number of students taking the flu vaccine was greater than anticipated, said Bonnie Davis, nursing director for Madison City Schools.

More than 1,000 doses of the nasal-spray vaccine were administered Monday at eight of the Madison school district’s 11 schools.

Schools to receive the vaccine Tuesday, Jan. 15 include Horizon Elementary, Discovery Middle and Bob Jones High School.

Children must have a signed permission slip from their parent or guardian to get the no-shot vaccine.
