David Smith named Alabama GOP rising star

David Michael Smith, a Republican from Madison County recently received statewide recognition by being named the Alabama Republican Party’s Rising Star.

The Alabama GOP names a Rising Star each week. Smith received the distinction for the week of November. 19.

Smith recently ran unsuccessfully for Madison County Commission District 2, where he placed second of three candidates at age 26. He received 25% of the vote. Smith said, “Receiving the recognition from the state party is an honor.”

“I am honored to be recognized for my hard work and the exhausting efforts I have been making for the Alabama Republican Party, through that work Republicans will be able to make a positive difference in all levels of government” Smith said.

Smith previously served as the North Alabama Regional Field Director for the Alabama Republican Party. Smith is married and has one daughter. He is an Iraq war veteran and currently a senior at the University of Alabama-Huntsville studying political science and business-economics.
