David Michael Smith will focus on fiscal responsibilty if elected

David Michael Smith is a candidate for the Madison County Commission District 2 race.

Prior to deciding to run for public office, David joined the military at age 19 and in just three years moved up four ranks to become a Sergeant. He was responsible for over one million dollars while in combat for 15 months. David returned to Germany with 100% accountability.

While stationed in Germany, David wrote a 129 page communications policy that was adopted by the entire Regiment of over 8,000+ people. While in Advanced Individual Training David led about 300 soldiers. After the military, he went to UAH and majored in Political Science and minored in Business/Economics.

David is married to his wife Angelica, who is also an Iraq Combat Veteran. They have a one-year-old daughter, Leila. David is a deacon at Sherwood Baptist Church and serves on the finance and personnel committees.

David says he will work to create an environment for jobs. He will push for more jobs in Research Park, more specifically the Biotechnology sector. He will work to get more factory jobs in the Jetplex for those who do not have a college education. He will work to diversify our job sectors.

David will work to improve roads and to cut wasteful spending. He will not take a salary in his first year and instead use it to start a fund for school supplies.
David says he will not vote to take or pursue Federal grants and instead learn to work within budget. He will not allow anymore commissioner pet projects in district 2. Finally, David will not support eminent domain for business development.

David is endorsed by the Alabama Alliance Against Abortion, the Alabama Tea Party Express and a local PTA President.
