Daily holiday hands-on activity stations created at Sci-Quest

Come share the holiday spirit with a touch of science at Sci-Quest, Hands-on Science Center this month. Enjoy festive decorations and learn more about the science behind everyone’s favorite holiday with daily hands-on activities through Dec. 30.

There are daily holiday activity stations set-up throughout the science center where visitors can make their own snowflakes, reindeer rockets, holiday ornaments and learn about penguins and reindeer. Here is a complete listing of activities:

Snowflake Safari

You and your family will be surprised at how much science goes into snow! Meteorology, chemistry, and physics will be explored in these fun filled activities that give you time to make and take cool snowflake crafts to take home.

Reindeer Flight School

What if Santa’s Reindeer were from the Rocket City? Would they fly by magic? Of course not! They would be rocket powered! Come learn the basics of flight, where reindeers really come from, and make your own “reindeer rocket” to take home.

Polar Explorers

If a penguin cannot fly, then why does it have wings? You and your family will have a frosty good time as we discover how penguins raise their babies, find food, and survive in one of the harshest places on earth.

Ornamental Science

Believe it or not, there is a lot of science behind the pretty stuff on your tree. Discover how the ancient oriental art of origami can be used to understand math and fractions and discover the scientific reason why tinsel sticks to everything! You and your family will make your own ornaments to take home and then tag us on Facebook so we can see how your science ornament looks on your tree.

These daily holiday activities are free with general admission to Sci-Quest. Adults are $9, children (3-18) are $8 and seniors are $8.50. Children 2 and under are free. This event will last through Sunday, Dec. 30. For more information, visit www.sci-quest.org or call 256-837-0606.
