Area divers hoping for big finish at state swim meet

Several area high school divers from the North Alabama High School Swim League are set to finish high in the upcoming AHSAA State Swim & Dive Championships at Auburn on Nov 30.  Most notable amongst area divers is Jordan Bagwell a junior at Huntsville High School.

A competitive diver since the 7th grade,  Jordan won the recent NAC Meet with the highest point total ever (468.4) for an area diver in an NAC Meet.  Huntsville High won the overall team championship in both boys and girls.

In last year’s NAC Meet, for the second year, Jordan finished 2nd to Andrew Laing by less than 5 points in diving.  Andrew then went on to finish 2nd in last year’s State Meet; Jordan finished 6th.

Also hoping to do well at the State Meet is Huntsville’s Ryan Holder,  after a 3rd Place finish in last year’s NAC Meet, and a 10th Place in last year’s State Meet.  Both improved dramatically in this year’s NAC Meet over last year – Jordan by 31 points and Ryan by 76 points.  Both figure to place high in this year’s State Meet, along with four other returning Top 10 finishers from around the state, two from Auburn, one from Hoover, and one from Homewood.  Pope John Paul’s Sam Sphul  finished 3rd in this year’s NAC Meet.

For the local girls, Kennedy Williams of James Clemens won this year’s NAC meet, followed closely by Anna Trevarthan of Cullman, and Emily Caramanian of Huntsville High.

The Diving competition will begin Fri Nov 30 at 9am.  Swimming will begin Friday afternoon.
